LG 42SL80 42-Inch Seamless 240Hz 1080p LCD HDTV, Glass/Black

This TV has a super clear picture with blueray and good with reg dvd, I was watching Terminator Salvation and the picture was the best ive seen ever better with trumotion on low, some reason with Terminator on blueray the tru motion was really good other movies it might look unnatural. 240hz for under a $1000, great deal. At first the trumotion was kinda weird looking once you get use to it, it looks great especially with gaming with xbox360 the graphics look more smooth like gaming with a hi end gamer computer. The blacks are excellent and it does make a difference cause dark blacks makes your picture look more clear and crisp, picture is bright so much better than my samsung DLP and sony xbr 6 new tech way better. If anyone has ever had the problem with older lcds that when you play games the picture is very dim and you have to turn up the brightness the LGsl80 has no problem hooked it up and good to go. People always complain about the sound being horrible but to me the sound is great for speaker that are small and not even half way the volume is loud enough full volume would be too loud. Of corse your not going to get surround sound with bass. About the lip sync problem none maybe you need HDMI 1.3 not sure though but i have no problems at all. Also the TV is super thin.

Besides the picture quality my buying decision was primarily based on the appearance.

This is the one of the best TV out there for its price - for a sub $1000 LCD HDTV this is a great value. For the look, this TV is absolutely stunning, I was captured by the appearance of this TV. Due to space limitation I had to go with the 42" model, but there is a 47" (LG 47SL80) or alternatively with LED back-light (LG 47SL90) of course in a higher price range.

I have this TV set now for about a month and following is the short summary of my experience until now. Main usage of the TV is connected to HDTV cable set-top-box (FiOS), upscale DVD player and Wii game console (standard definition). Haven't tried the TV receiver capabilities, yet.

PROS:
-Great appearance ("frameless"/seamless design)
-Very thin design
-Easy set-up, easy built-in wizard
-Extensive but organized menu with very high number of settings
-Very good HD picture quality with smooth & crisp picture
-Relatively good sound quality for a very thin flat LCD set, would recommend external audio though
-User manual on CD (somebody prefers paper version, I like the search-ability of the electronic documentation, needed it only once)
-swivel stand
-good range of inputs

CONS:
-No analog audio output (e.g. for headphones or external sound-bar/speakers); only digital
-Somewhat high reflection of the ambient light on the glossy glass screen (that makes the appearance so great) - make sure that the room can set lower the light or use in a darker room with less direct sunlight
-TrueMotion is a marketing gimmick (comes in default setting as "Low", but I decided to turn it off as it's more distracting than help with the motion blurr)
-Standard definition picture quality not as good as competitors but still acceptable.

There have been reports of the audio/video lag problem of the earlier version of the TV's firmware, I haven't experienced any problems.

To achieve more natural cinema-like look of the movies and to suppress the "TV-like" feel I would also recommend to turn on the "Real Cinema" mode and set the color temperature options to "Warm". Of course these are personal preferences.

All in all I would recommend to buy this TV for it's appearance, very good high definition picture quality and a good value.
LG 42LD520 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

I bought this TV from the big box retailer that constantly rolls back prices. The TV was actually cheaper than online. Overall I like the TV very much and I think the value proposition is excellent. My local Bestbuy had this TV on display.

I have three recommendations for people who are not technically inclined - like myself - and get this TV to utilize the TV's full potential:

1. Make sure you use an HDMI cable to connect this TV to your cable box. You need to make sure that your HDMI cable is at least version 1.3.
2. Get HD cable or satellite. Having HD channels makes a huge difference.
3. Make sure your cable box is set at 1080p output signal. Our cable box was set at a much lower picture quality and it took me a while to figure this out. Some cable boxes might adjust the output signal automatically, but not all do that.

If you follow these three simple steps you should be able to enjoy the full potential of the TV. Also, think about getting netflix and one of the blue ray players that allows you to stream netflix. The quality of some of the movies is just awesome.

My last recommendation is to get an additional warranty. LCD TVs seem to be more prone to failing than CRT TVs. There are huge differences in the cost of these additional warranties. So account for these differences in your comparisons when you shop around.
I spent close to an hour in the store comparing LCD TVs. This LG stood out with its sharp and bright colors. I used the store's Internet connection to check out the reviews but since it is a new model there wasn't many. The older model however was popular among gamers.

The speakers on this TV are hidden on the back and this gives it a neat look. The speakers also sound great. There are different sound options in the menu plus advanced picture controls. In "Intelligent Sensor" mode the TV adjust the brightness and color contrast according to the room lighting conditions. The picture quality is easy to setup using the picture wizard option.

This TV has three HDMI connections in the back to use with your laptop or desktop plus an RGB (VGA Cable). There is also a USB 2.0 port in the back. I connected a USB thumb drive and was able to listen to music and display my digital pictures on the screen.

Over all I am very pleased with quality of this LG model and recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a LCD TV for under $1k, and I mean not for picture quality but the size of the screen since this had as good, if not better, picture quality as other more expensive models in the store.
LG 42LG70 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

After reading reviews, I recently purchased the 40" Sony XBR4 as it's considered one of the best LCD's on the market. But after 10 days of continuing to adjust and tinker with the settings on the Sony, I concluded the color was just too garish and sensitive. I even had a technician come out to look at the set, and he agreed the color quality on the Sony was inconsistent at best.

Enter the new LG 42LG70 which I purchased after returning the overrated Sony XBR4.

The LG42LG70 has a great picture...very natural colors. The set reproduces vibrant colors, but not in the garish, you need sunglasses to view it, way that the Sony did. In addition, the LG 42LG70 has some terrific settings such as "Fresh Color" which accentuates the green of playing fields when watching sports such as baseball (it does so without oversaturating other colors at the same time).

Furthermore, the LG 42LG70 is a good looking set! Thin, impressive black bezel, etc... I have a 42" Sharp Aquos in my den, but have to admit I like the picture quality better on the brand new LG 42LG70.

I highly recommend this LCD to anyone in the market for a quality television! (Plus, it costs less than the disappointing Sony XBR4!).

I spent hours looking at just about every 12Ohz TV in the store. I had the decision down to the Samsung "Touch of Red," LG Scarlett (LG60) and this 42LG70. The Samsung seemed nice, but I felt it was overpriced. It had half the features the LGs have. The only thing "special" about the Samsung was that it had a hard drive. Personally I don't need a hard drive on my TV. I like the Scarlet (42LG60), but I wasn't a fan of the big circle in the middle. It's style and design seemed a little odd and old fashioned to me. Then there it was, the 42LG70! Same exact features as the Scarlet, but the design is much more modern (and $450 cheaper)! The finish is very sleek and shiny. You can see your face in it (it comes with a super cool, high speed micro fiber cloth to wipe off finger prints and smudges and it works really well)! I got it home and hooked it up and the picture was unreal. I watched an episode of Prison Break in HD and was blown away. My wife made the comment that the picture was so good, you could see the actors pores and imperfections lol. The funny thing is, she usually can't tell the difference between HD and SD. This TV has opened her eyes (we had a 32LG40 from three years ago)!

Like someone already mentioned, the TruMotion is an excellent feature while watching most programming, but for certain HD programming and every movie I have tried to watch, its better to turn the TruMotion off. The problem I noticed is that it seems you are watching everything in a x2 FF mode. Turned the TruMotion off and the speed went back to normal without any loss of picture quality.

This TV is absolutely amazing and you cannot beat the price! Sony is overrated and expensive and Samsung is starting to get that way too. Bottom line: you can't go wrong purchasing this LCD TV!
LG 42LG50 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I own a Panasonic 50 inch plasma TV - just can't rave about that TV. So, when I needed a 42 inch TV to attach to a PS3 - I was wavering between a plasma (yet again) and LCD tv (the first try). I know Panasonic Plasmas rock - but then again getting PC connectivity was very important consideration, Panasonic Plasma's didn't have a PC port (s-video ports are poor substitute for pc connectivity as picture quality is very very bad). For PC connectivity - you can't beat LCDs.

Made my mind to buy Toshiba Regza 42 inch lcd TV based on Reviews- Looked TVs at Circuit City, then again looked at Best Buy with my family. This LG set seemed to beat Toshiba both in clarity, and picture details in every one's opinion. Panasonic 42 inch (and 50 inch) 1080P plasma's (picture and) sound quality will blow any thing in 42-50 inch TVs and there is no doubt about it. This LG TV looks great - picture with PS3 in 1080P are stunningly beautiful, the set looks very nice and sound quality is good (and crisp) (but volume doesn't go very high as I would have liked too and is only about half of comparable Panasonic's 42 inch plasma set.). The sound output could have been a bit better for a 1200 dollar set - not so here. Overall, this is a good set for bedrooms, basements and for playing games and watching Blueray movies. After having the set for two weeks, I can say that HDTV reception is awesome and unbelievably good, and as good as it gets on any thing. The SD TV reception (via comcast box) is quite good - but a notch below than my Panasonic plasma TV's SD picture where picture has more feel and warmth and colors are much sharper (that is more to do with LCD versus Plasma than this particular set's weekness in my opinion). If you buy this set- you won't regret it. This set looks very good and performs very well. I would very much recommend it. Here is short summary:

HD Picture Quality - 5***** Superb, Fantastic
SD Picture Quality - 4**** Very Good but not as sharp as equivalent Panasonic Plsama's
Sound Quality - 4**** Sound Quality is Good, and Crisp, Bass is a bit lacking when compared to Pany Plasma.
Sound Volume - 4*** (More than enough for daily use, but not loud enough for occasional Party blasts of music Videos. I would recommend external speaker or a home theater system. ).
TV Set look and Feel - 5***** Excellent, Beautiful

Connectivity: Has 3 HDMI ports. One more HDMI would have been good as every thing is moving in that direction. Plenty of other ports. RGB port and USB Port for laptop connectivity. Audio (optical/ coax, streao) output for home theater conenctions.

I've had this TV for a week. Hooked it up to a Comcast HD/DVR via HDMI. HD channels are spectacular as you would expect. Seems to do a good job with SD channels. Black levels seem perfectly fine to me. Overall design is very attractive with hidden speakers and a simple thin chrome strip across the bottom and a light that glows red when in standby and blue when on. Sound quality is very good for a TV. Picture quality was pretty good out of the box. I did reduce the backlighting and red a bit. Liked that it has both a USB and VGA input in this price range. Got it for $1215. Photo viewing is good. Can play background music and slide shows from folders on the USB drive. The remote says its universal, but I cannot get it to work with the Comcast box or my Toshiba DVD. Did get my Comcast remote to work with the TV so not really a problem. No regrets. Would buy this again.
LG 42LH30 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black

I've been researching 40-42" HD TVs for months, looking for the ideal match for my needs that fit my budget of under $1,000. I looked at plasmas, 120Hz LCDs, 40", 42", Sharp, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Vizio, Westinghouse, and LG.

I finally found it - on sale for almost two-hundred off (exactly eight-hundred-and-nine dollars). Would still be a great value at a thousand dollars.

I'd rather have too much control than too little with my electronics. The 42LH30 delivers all the control I want and more, but it also provides several nice presets for the type of content I'm watching (movies, sports, games, standard). It also lets me build 2 presets myself for exactly what I want. I can be picky or I can be lazy and still get a great picture for any situation.

The 50,000 dynamic contract ratio and 5ms refresh speed make for a superb picture/performance combo.

I was very close to going with a 120Hz 42" Vizio. They have been getting decent reviews. When the LG 42lh30 went on sale, it was a deal I could not refuse.

Some things I really like.

1) Outstanding picture (no compromises with colors)
2) Great performance (sports and movies don't judder at all so far)
3) Energy Star (several low power modes - I love flexibility)
4) Lighter than most (easy to hang on wall - I use an articulating arm)
5) Anti-glare awesomeness (I have lots of windows in my 3-seasons room)
6) Outstanding PC screen (when I just have to surf on the 42")
7) Upconverting DVDs look phenomenal (blu-ray player is next purchase)
8) Sound is more than acceptable on TV (I usually output audio to my Home Theater system if I will be watching for more than a few minutes)

Things I would change:

1) Only 3 HDMI ports (Fine for me now with cable box, DVD player, and PC)
2) I'd prefer a matte black bezel instead of a gloss finish
3) Maybe add an SD-card reader (my DVD player has SD and USB reader, fortunately)

Overall a great TV. I had bought a samsung, but it was too thick for my taste. I did notice the "lip sync" problem when using the TV's speakers to watch TV. This is a problem with how the TV gets the digital input from the Dish DVR that I am using. The fix is to hold the MENU button on TV (on Left side of TV) at the same pushing the MENU button on the the remote control. Then enter "0000" for the code. This will access the system menu. Go down to "Lip Sync" and adjust the number up or down till the lip movements matches the sound coming out of the speakers.

the audio is the only thing lacking; but it is still really good.
this TV has it all: energy efficient; great picture, tons of settings, tons of connections for all your gadgets.
I am amped about purchasing a matching LG BluRay DVD shortly- gotta do the TV's amazing picture justice.
I love the wireless USB option- a optional piece of equipment that I purchased shortly afterwards... not that I use many of the functions; but very kewl access to some of the webs favorites.
I plan to use the Wii to stream Netflix; however the TV may be able to do that too!
It was easy to assemble and set up. I have had no luck getting my Cable remote to sync up to the TV- we basically only need it for on/off and the volume.

Nothing yet. I love this thing!!!WOW! What a great TV. I did a lot of research between TVs and eventually settled on this because it seemed like an all around good TV and there was a great Labor Day sale. The picture quality is great, sound quality is great and so are the features. Football looks amazing in 120 Hz. I almost feel as though I am at the game. The picture is so clear it almost looks like raw footage at times. The TV is extremely thin also. It is actually thinner than some of the pictures hanging on my wall. This TV is awesome. Look no further... This is the television that you want

I thought my LCD had a good picture quality, but the new LED is far superior. After setting up the LED I put in the Blue Ray 'Avatar' movie. Unbelievable picture resolution and color. The LCD depicted a red flower, but the LED displayed a multi-colored red with individual leaf veins! I like the wireless connection enabling me to select Netfflix movies on my PC, then watching them on the LED via the Netflix widget. A great purchase that I would recommend to any one.
LG 42LE5400 42-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV with Internet Applications - In Stock One Day FREE Shipping

The LG 42LE5400 is my first flat-screen television, and I've only had it for a couple weeks now. So there are the caveats.

But to my eye, it's a beautiful machine -- with the power on or off. I'm the kind of person who wants the giant TV in my living room to look nice even when it's off; only Samsung sets can match this LG in the looks department. It's almost impossibly thin, and when powered off it's just a cool-looking black panel sitting on my entertainment center.

Turned on, it's amazing. I haven't noticed any blurring while watching sports or action, the colors are great, flesh tones look like flesh, and the blacks look more than adequate. I did have to fiddle with the settings some out of the box -- turned the backlighting way down, for example. But to me, the television's self-calibration system seems to work great.

The Internet apps are pretty good, if a little spare. The TV connects to Netflix, Vudu, YouTube and other Internet video using an Ethernet cable plugged into my wireless router. LG sells a separate wireless receiver that you can plug into the television to ditch the 10baseT. There are also a bunch of Yahoo! "widgets" that do things like tell you the weather and check stock prices. They seem relatively useless.

I don't know anything about consumer electronics but bought this model television here. I could not be more pleased. The picture is crystal clear.
I thought long and hard before I bought anything this large and expensive from a website, but I had absolutely NO problem!
I should have paid more attention to my shipping options when it came to free shipping. I thought it took a few days longer to arrive than it should have, but chalk that up to my not having read all the details.
I did try to do my homework about brands and features, etc. I must have done alright because I don't see how this television could be any better. I'm going to eventually investigate how I can do the wireless hookup to my computer so that I can do the Netflix instant download thing.
You can buy a cheaper tv this size but you might get what you pay for.

You know its time to start enjoying full HD 1080p, and the 42LD450 LCD television is an easy way to get into it. A beautiful LCD with all of the innovations that make LG TVs something better. Please Note: Overnight or 2nd Day Air i 1920 x 1080 42 inches LCD

We did not purchase this TV from Amazon, we purchased it at a local retail store, not for any other reason than the price (we paid a few hundred less than the current Amazon price)

My husband and I purchased this back in April, it was either this or the Phillips that they had set right beside it, it was really a hard choice as the Phillips was marked down to just a few hundred dollars, whilst this was just under six fifty. We are so very glad that we went with this model(42LD450). The video quality is quite good, blacks are black, and whites are white, back light is very bright, and video quality is amazing.

We almost took this back however: When we first plugged it in and turned it on, the only picture was a white screen with the Firmware version bouncing around, no menu would come up and it would not acknowledge anything had been connected. Well, we unplugged it again, and turned it back on, and this time, it acknowledged the DVR (input 1) and starting spewing forth video and audio We have had no problems since that.

My only gripe is that we will have to go out and purchase a new unit for our surround system, as the TV only has a Optical Audio Output. And on that note, the built in speakers are not awesome, yes, they are very usable, but like almost all TV speakers, they are not going to satisfy your need for spectacular surround.

The picture size won't allow a "force fit" of an older 4:3 ration signal to the 16:9 Wide Screen FormatI replaced a slightly larger screen (46") with is LG and haven't missed the old set a minute. The LG was easy to set up right out of the box. The menu's on-screen through the remote were clear and simple to explain to the more easily frustrated members of the viewing family. The picture is crystal clear, sharp and a joy to watch. The sound is fine for my needs. HDTV looks great, the Blu-Ray player is wonderful. The only real issue I don't like is the picture size functions. My old set would allow me to crop the picture and fill the screen with an old non-HD 4:3 TV signal. I have yet to be able to force this on the LG. So I see alot of black space on the ends when viewing an old movie. Not a big deal, particularly when its the only complaint.

I have been wanting a new large scree TV for about 3 years now. I finally got out of grad school and got a real job and the first purchase I made was a TV. I have been looking for many years and thought that the 120Hz LCD was the way to go. WRONG! I want a large tv for watching football and hockey. I now can say first hand that LCD's suck at sports. They are pixilated and blurry when the players are in motion. Hence the 120Hz 2.5ms response time, compred to plasma 600Hz 0.0001ms response time. I bought this TV and took it home and was shocked at how good the picture was for basic tv programs like 30Rock and The Office, but was stunned at how poor the picture was with football. I was not happy spending 1000 bucks (With warranty) on a tv that did not show sports well. I don't need a 42in TV to watch sitcoms, I need it to watch SPORTS!I returned the tv and bought a 42in Samsung PLASMA. It is UNBELIEVABLE! Sports are amazing with no blur and no pixilation. The only downside is a little glare. However, unless you try to focus on the glare you don't notice it after a few seconds. If you want a large TV for sports GET A PLASMA and save a couple hundred bucks.

The LG LD550 LCD TV series provides Full HD 1080p picture quality with TruMotion 100Hz and built in Freeview with great connectivity including 3 HDMI and a USB connection for playback of your favorite pictures and videos. I have owned my 42" LCD TV for about 5 weeks now and I haven't found one thing I don't like about the TV. It has an incredible picture quality that has so much depth and detail it almost looks like 3D. The speakers have good sound quality and are very clear.

TV is great for the type (LCD) and price. The picture is bright, good contrast, and very smooth. The menu/remote are very comfortable...overall the picture is very nice. Aesthetically, the TV looks great as well...no cheesy features or decorations. This is my first LG product and I'm very pleased with this set. Also added the wireless adapter ($70). The entire setup and interface are very intuitive. This is a kids TV and they had Netflix down in no time (even the 5 year old). My only wish would be a backlit remote control.

Only complaint at all is with shipping. It did not ship on time and there was no communication from the shipping company. Ultimately, I had to contact the shipper to make an appointment (was stated that they would contact me). Once I called them, they drove it over the next day (Saturday). All in all, still very pleased.
